Welcome to Season 3 Episode 21 of DissedMedia: A Startup Story, the podcast where we chronicle the real-world highs and lows of turning a scrappy idea into a thriving media company. After a short hiatus, Season Three shifts its spotlight to one goal: growing an engaged audience, organically, and learning how to build a following.

Season Overview

We last aired in November 2024, and a lot has happened behind the scenes. Our website has been tweaked, showcases more content, and captures email subscribers more effectively. Those upgrades set the stage for our bigger push: expanding our social media reach and deepening community interaction, all to build a following that matters.

Building the Foundation

In the early days, we struggled to attract followers without a well-stocked content archive, an all-too-common chicken-and-egg problem. Over the past several months, we’ve flipped that script by publishing 300+ articles aimed at helping managers, leaders, and entrepreneurs sharpen their edge. With a solid library in place, we’re finally ready to ramp up outreach and build a following effectively.

Audience Engagement and Insights

One lesson has already landed hard: audience building is a marathon, not a sprint. Former board member Matt Saincome left a lasting impression when he said, “Audiences take time.” This keeps reminding us that patience beats panic. Traffic is trending up, our weekly newsletter is gaining traction, but our social channels still need lift. The takeaway? Consistency + time = momentum in efforts to build a following.

Educational Initiatives

Enter The Daily Pitch Academy. Think of it as our educational arm, offering resources that range from free self-paced micro-courses to premium one-on-one coaching. The inaugural course on social media marketing is live, and early feedback tells us we’re on the right track.

Content Highlights

This week’s must-reads:

  • Gen Z Workforce: Why mentorship beats free snacks every time.
  • Ryan Trahan’s 50-State Challenge: A masterclass in creator-led brand partnerships.
  • Solo Founder Success Stories: How one-person shops are scaling to seven figures.
  • Fast Fashion Fueling Waste: How billion dollar brands are contributing to waste
  • Quiet Coaching: The effectiveness of a feedback nudge

Every piece is crafted to deliver actionable insight you can put to work today.

Challenges and Opportunities

Our biggest hurdle remains social growth, without buying ads or bots. We’re committed to letting quality content pull people in naturally. It’s slower, sure, but it keeps trust high and costs low, helping us to truly build a following.

We’re in this for the long haul, investing in meaningful content and authentic connections. The payoff will come, but for now the journey itself fuels us in our quest to build a following.
